Overview
Living well in Tema.
Tema is a planned coastal city east of Accra, organised around a series of numbered communities and closely connected to Ghana’s major port and industrial areas.
Its residential areas range from established communities to newer developments such as Community 1 to Community 25, offering a mix of standalone houses, apartments and gated estates.
Lifestyle
Tema offers a varied lifestyle because of its size and community-based layout. Different parts of the city offer different residential settings, from long-established neighbourhoods to newer gated developments. Residents benefit from access to schools, shopping, healthcare, restaurants and commercial services across the city, while Tema’s coastal location and connection to major industrial and business areas give it a distinct character compared with central Accra.
Tema has a wide range of schools across its communities, including Tema International School, DPS International School and Datus Complex Schools, Tema. The city also has several public and private schools serving different communities.
Healthcare is well represented across Tema, with facilities including Tema General Hospital, International Maritime Hospital Ghana Limited, Nyaho Clinic and several private hospitals and clinics. The location of a property within Tema will determine which facilities are most convenient.
Residents have access to supermarkets, community shopping centres and larger retail destinations. Tema Shopping Mall and Palace Shopping Center, Community 25, Tema are among the established shopping options, alongside numerous smaller commercial centres across the communities.
Tema has a growing range of restaurants and casual dining options spread across its communities. Options include Starbites Tema and MEET AND EAT, with additional restaurants and local food spots throughout the city.
Tema is connected to Accra through the Accra–Tema Motorway and the Spintex corridor, while the N1 and Tema–Akosombo routes provide access toward other parts of the eastern corridor. Traffic can vary considerably depending on the community and direction of travel, so the exact location of a property is important when considering daily commuting.
